About OSF
Hosted by the CNRS Foundation, the Ocean Sustainability Foundation (OSF) connects global ocean science, knowledge, and experience to accelerate transformative policy decisions and concrete actions. Working through the International Platform for Ocean Sustainability (IPOS), we support States and key ocean actors to secure a sustainable future for the ocean and all life that relies on it.
Shared Purpose
OSF was founded to secure our ocean as a vital lifeline for the future by mobilising science and knowledge to catalyse action.
Projects
International Platform for Ocean Sustainability (IPOS)
The ocean is essential to life on Earth. Despite scientists’ warnings of an ocean crisis, Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG14)—conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development—remains the least funded of all the SDGs in the 2030 Agenda.
In an era when collaboration is more urgent than ever, and facts are more important than ever, OSF is charting an urgent course for ambitious global action.
OSF’s first project, the International Platform for Ocean Sustainability (IPOS), translates actionable ocean knowledge into informed policy decisions for concrete global impact. Launched at UNOC3 in June 2025, IPOS is a global, demand-driven platform working at national and regional levels to deliver credible, inclusive, and context-specific solutions that support meeting our international ocean commitments.
How We Work
Coordination
OSF coordinates all IPOS activities and its diverse network of contributors.
Management
OSF guides the IPOS’s governance, enriched by contributions from all actors involved in the IPOS ecosystem.
Structure
OSF structures its tasks around roadmaps co-designed with all IPOS project stakeholders.

Ocean Expertise
The IPOS project is supported by a growing coalition of more than 60 institutions around the world. IPOS partners with interdisciplinary scientists, researchers, and knowledge- and rights-holders to translate their expertise into actionable solutions that address the ocean emergency and drive positive, transformative change.
